Volkswagen Polo TSI launched with Comfortline variant at a starting price of 7.56 lakh

Volkswagen launched the Polo TSI with the Comfortline variant

Pros

1. Safety

This was a miracle that VW managed to get 4 stars without even having a seat belt pretensioner which helps in proper landing on airbags to increase safety, ABS and seat belt warning! The body shell was marked stable at the standard 64 kmph speed with 2 airbags by Global NCAP.

VW uses steel crossbars to increase safety in side crash impact.

Build quality and fit and finish

Build quality does not every time mean by the outer body and door thud, build quality is justified by each and every small nut of the car, Volkswagen gives top notch quality at even hidden compartments for example the plastic quality and texture is very precisely done with uniform panel gaps with solid build which will last long with no rattling even after 7 to 10 years, the outer body panel gaps of the car is swiped by a card in each of the panels which shows the panel gaps are exactly similar and are smartly engineered. The paint job is coated with 11 stage paint process which is corrosion resistant and UV rays protected which helps it stay like new for years.

Volkswagen does a stone impact test to check paint quality strength.

Polo is a perfect example of the gem German car engineering.

Driving dynamics

Polo is made for the enthusiasts and the ride and handling balance is most important for an enthusiast Polo does quite well here it absorbs bad bumps with ease the suspensions are damped properly so they do not make much noise and talking about stability it feels rock solid stable even after 150 kmph if you break without holding the steering wheel the car will not loose it's line the cornering manners are awesome with sharp and precise steering which acts accurately to inputs and gives decent feedback, body roll is also under control. The breaking system is best in the segment with progressive feel from the break pedal.

Engine

Volkswagen nailed it by giving the TSI over the regular 1.0 MPI by
maximum 40 thousand rupees price difference! Talking about the TSI particularly it is a 1 litre 3 cylinder petrol engine making 110 PS of power @ 5000-5500 RPM and 175 NM of torque @ 1750-4000 RPM mated with a 6 speed manual and a 6 speed torque converter type transmission. TSI has a decent low end grunt with good in gear acceleration and part throttle responses also decent but the sweet spot of the engine is the mid range and top end, as you touch 1750 RPM it gives a proper kick in the pants feel and pulls hard and fast by giving you a nice pull back and sometimes pin you to your seat and pulls hard and fast till 6000 RPM with no flatspot talking about the 6 speed automatic it is fast with shifts and is surprisingly smooth gear shifts, talking about the refinement and NVH levels you can feel a little bit not too much of 3 cylinderness with minor vibrations and minor engine sound but as you get going it's refined and had no vibrations, talking about the road noise it's best insulated in the whole segment, it feels like a much higher segment in terms of both road and wind noise, it is unbeatable! You also can not listen much sounds from outside like the horns and Bullet bikes.

Mileage

ARAI rated- 18 kmpl.

Comfort

The front seats hold you tightly while cornering and are perfectly foamed and will not make you uncomfortable at long journeys.

Features

Volkswagen has decently loaded the Polo Comfortline with alloy wheels, LED tail lamps, remote central locking with auto window roll up and roll down, it has tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel, music system with bluetooth, cruise control, rear wiper and washer etc.

Looks

Polo has a timeless design! Despite of being 11 years old which still looks sexy with beautiful cuts and creases.

Resale value

Polo has proven it's reliability and spare parts availability so you get a decent resale value.

Overall

Polo is build like a tank with awesome drive quality and decent features and a timeless design.

Cons

Rear seat space

Rear seat comfort is decent but space is not good for big adults at all talking about the leg space but the head space is decent and the biggest problem is the big transmission tunnel which makes it very difficult for the middle passenger.

Maintenance cost

Some of the parts are imported in the Polo and parts are very costly and if you accidentally face a big issue it will cost your wallet a big shock and regular service is expensive especially labor is on the costly side.

Overall

If you have a family with big people or you cannot afford the high maintenance than Polo is not for you.

Price

Comfortline TSI manual- 7.56 lakh Indian rupees (ex showroom).

Comfortline TSI automatic- 8.51 lakh Indian rupees (ex showroom).
